Assistant Engineer - Highways

• Hourly Rate: Up to £33 per hour via umbrella

Join our Highways Planned Maintenance Team as an Assistant Engineer, responsible for the design, programming, and delivery of planned maintenance of carriageways and footways. With an annual budget of approximately £14m covering around 450 sites, this role is crucial for ensuring the effective use of materials and techniques in highway maintenance.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Assess sites for inclusion in future maintenance programmes.
• Supervise contractors daily to ensure safety and quality standards are met during the Highway Planned Maintenance Programmes.
• Address any site issues that arise daily.
• Investigate complaints related to the works.
• Maintain accurate site records and keep Engineers updated on progress and any arising issues.
• Inspect works and identify necessary remedial actions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge and experience in highway maintenance.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and consider the views of others.
• Analytical skills to absorb and compare complex information from multiple sources.
• Excellent planning and organising skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to escalate issues logically.
• Proficient ICT skills to analyse data and present it effectively using various digital platforms.
• Creative thinking with the ability to develop innovative solutions.
