Job Description: Groundsperson – Slough Cricket Club

Reports to: Club Committee

Main Duties:

  • Develop, in conjunction with the General committee, a programme for the maintenance and improvement of the playing surfaces ( 2 crickets square and outfield) and surrounding areas
  • Prepare pitches and outfield to the best possible quality (as requested by the captains) working within the budget constraints of the club
  • Ensure a backup person or subcontractor  is trained and available to carry out the work in the event of injury or other circumstances.
  • Prepare and submit a financial budget to the committee for approval
  • Ensure all equipment is suitable for use, is regularly maintained and used appropriately to ensure the equipment maintenance is kept to a minimum
  • Ensure all work parties are co-ordinated and clear tasks are provided for volunteers and seeks assistance when needed
  • Attend committee meetings on a regular basis and provide a progress report on maintenance and development of the ground and future plans
  • Works with the Fixture Secretary to ensure pitches are prepared in readiness for all types of cricket games
  • Notifies Captains and Fixture Secretary when the ground is not suitable for cricket
  • Opportunities for working behind the bar.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to plan ahead and takes pride in their work
  • Willing to learn and to impart knowledge
  • Good communicator
  • Strong experience in cricket pitches and outfields
  • Self Starter
  • Collaborative team based approach

Responsible to:

  • Members of the club

Meetings to attend: AGM

  • Committee meeting as required

 Contract Type:

  • This is a full time position in the summer as well as some winter work in readiness for the main season.
