We are currently working in close collaboration with a well-establishedSecondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Manchester, who are seeking a committed and resilient Learning Support Mentor to join their team from September.This PRU supports students aged 11-16 who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment with a strong focus on behaviour support, emotional wellbeing, and re-engagement with learning. Staff are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people, many of whom have experienced trauma, social challenges, or special educational needs. The school is known for its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and multi-agency approach. It offers excellent training and development opportunities and is easily accessible from central Manchester and surrounding areas.

Your New Job

As a Learning Support Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting students both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential. This is a full-time, term-time-only role starting in September, with a temp-to-perm pathway for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support behaviour and engagement.
  • Assist in the delivery of personalised learning plans and behaviour interventions.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Support the wider school team in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach.
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
  • The ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • A Team Teach qualification or similar behaviour management training is desirable but not essential.
  • You must have (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS on the update service.
