An inclusive and supportive primary school in the heart of Southwark (SE5) is looking to appoint a passionate Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated SEMH provision. The setting offers targeted support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them re-engage with learning in a structured, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for children with SEMH needs, focusing on both academic and emotional development
Implement de-escalation strategies and regulation techniques to help pupils manage behaviour and anxiety in the classroom and during less structured parts of the day
Deliver elements of personalised learning plans, behaviour support plans, and therapeutic interventions under guidance from SENCOs and external specialists
Actively support transitions between activities and lessons, ensuring routines are followed and pupils feel safe and supported throughout the day
Encourage the development of positive relationships, communication skills, and resilience through structured interventions and mentoring
Liaise closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families to ensure a joined-up approach to pupil supportCandidate Criteria

Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs in a primary or specialist setting
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment needs, and behaviour regulation strategies
Calm, patient, and proactive in difficult situations, with a genuine passion for helping vulnerable pupils
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 TA, Team Teach, MAPA) are desirable but not essential
