A Meaningful Role in a Supportive School

We are currently working with a well-regarded secondary school in central Southampton to appoint a Sociology Teacher from September 2025. This is a long-term position offered on either a 0.6 part-time or full-time basis, with potential for a permanent appointment for the right candidate.

The role will focus on GCSE Sociology, with the opportunity to teach additional Humanities subjects such as History, Geography, or PSHE depending on your background and availability.

This is a 'Good' Ofsted-rated school that serves a diverse community of learners aged 11-16. The leadership team is approachable and committed to maintaining high standards while supporting staff well-being and development. The school is based close to Southampton city centre and is easily accessible by public transport.

What the Role Involves

Teaching GCSE Sociology to students in Key Stage 4
Option to teach additional Humanities subjects depending on experience
Creating a structured, inclusive learning environment that enables all students to progress
Working closely with a supportive Humanities department to plan and deliver engaging lessons
Taking part in department planning and student progress tracking
Contributing to wider school life where possible

Who We're Looking For

A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent)
A background in Sociology or a related Social Sciences/Humanities field
Recent experience teaching in a UK secondary school (GCSE level experience preferred)
A calm, reflective approach to teaching and behaviour management
Confident working independently and as part of a team
Open to ECTs as well as experienced teachers
