BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB'S FUNCTION

The company is looking for a Senior Structural Advanced composite design engineer, to design and develop its range of offshore composite structures utilised with in several industries e.g. O&G, Renewables and Marine. The successful candidate must have detailed knowledge of designing load bearing structures utilising composite materials and be able to design layups and matrix configurations/technologies, additionally experience of manufacturing techniques would also be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be the Senior and integral member of a thriving ambitious composite engineering team. Leading with enthusiasm demanding the same of their team. The jobholder will be leading a team of Composite Design Engineers producing innovative engineering solutions primarily based upon off shore composite structures. Bring products from concept through to prototype and finally offering support to the wider business for product launch. Ensuring all developments consider cost, time and quality are imperative. They will be required to show initiative in all aspects of the role and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOBHOLDER

* To lead the team responsible for all the company composites based designs and development programmes keeping all stakeholders informed in support of the tendering process producing competitive cost-effective designs in line with customer specifications and industry standards

* To lead the team responsible for all company composite design engineering tasks in support of product development, evolution and cost reduction in line with the relevant customer specifications and industry standards

* To lead and mentor the team responsible for all company composites design engineering tasks in support of all live project work in order that products are produced in line with customer specifications and industry standards, whilst ensuring anticipated product costs are achieved or bettered

* Provide Technical Guidance and support the across the business including but not limited to the Advanced Composites Design Team, Business Development Engineer and Sales teams in all developments, new products, materials and manufacturing methodology.

* Lead Design of new composite (Fibre Reinforced Plastics) products from initial concept stage through to production in a professional and time efficient manner

* Produce technical reports detailing work completed and the products produced. Including but not limited to, engineering structural calculations, Finite element analysis.

* Lead and Conduct appropriate material & manufacturing selection dependent upon project specifications

* Producing 3-D CAD Models and Detail Drawings to provide solutions in accordance with project requirements.

* To assist in the development of company design systems, standards and procedures

* Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement on product design and performance, processes and tools to do the job effectively and efficiently To contribute development ideas for existing products.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

Required:

* Engineering degree - Mechanical or Structural Engineering or Design with Composites materials based. (minimum Beng (Hons))

Experience

Required:

* Minimum of 5 years design experience within a fast paced engineering design environment in the Advanced Composites and applied technology

* Minimum of 1 years' experience in leadership role where mentoring lesser experienced engineers was a key aspect in their daily work

* Comprehensive Knowledge of composite structures, materials, matrices, layups and composite manufacturing techniques

* Comprehensive Knowledge in subsea structural analysis and validation methods and techniques in composites designs with the ability to convey complex problems and solutions to team members

* Advanced Experience using FEA methods and techniques specifically for Composites design

* 3D CAD software

Desirable:

* 8 years plus mechanical/structural engineering design experience heavily involved with a composite design discipline

* Minimum of 3 years' experience in leadership role where mentoring a team of lesser experienced engineers in an Advanced Composites Design role.

* Knowledge of the Oil & Gas Industry, or Wind Energy or Naval design

Skills/Training

Required:

* Excellent communication skills

* Ability to produce technical calculations quickly and accurately based on structural makeup and performance for Composite Materials.

* Knowledge of CAD software and drawing standards preferably Inventor

* Advanced Knowledge of FEA software, preferably Ansys.

* Competence in MS Word, Excel, Access

* Appreciation of company and Industry Standards

Desirable:

* Extensive Experience in Mechanical and Composite FEA within Ansys or Equivalent

* Autodesk Inventor & Meridian (or other Database Management systems.)

* Competent ability in Mathcad

* Knowledge of DNV-OS-C501 (Composite Components)
