About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to Looked After Children (LAC) with social, emotional and behavioural needs in a welcoming Birmingham primary school. This is a rewarding role where you will make a genuine difference to a child's stability, progress and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support for Looked After Children, helping them feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.
  • Implement strategies to de-escalate behaviour, build emotional resilience and promote positive choices.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and pastoral team to create tailored learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage engagement in lessons through reassurance, routine and relationship-building.
  • Support with social skills, emotional literacy, and therapeutic approaches used in school.
  • Maintain clear communication with staff, external agencies and carers where appropriate.
  • Contribute to a nurturing, stable and inclusive school environment.
We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting children with behavioural, SEMH or trauma-related needs (school or alternative settings).
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong behaviour management strategies and the ability to work with firm but fair boundaries.
  • An understanding of attachment-aware or trauma-informed practice (training can be provided).
  • Someone reliable, emotionally resilient and committed to helping vulnerable children thrive.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
What the School Can Offer
  • A supportive and friendly staff team.
  • Ongoing training in behaviour support, SEMH, safeguarding and trauma-informed practice.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a child's life every single day.
  • A positive working environment where wellbeing matters.

If you are passionate about supporting vulnerable children and have the resilience to make a positive impact, we would love to hear from you
