Civils Design Manager - Permanent or Freelance

Birmingham (hybrid / site visits as required)

We're working with a well-established civil engineering contractor looking to appoint an experienced Civils Design Manager to support a growing workload across the Midlands.

This role would suit someone with a solid background in roads & highways and utilities, comfortable managing design interfaces and coordinating multidisciplinary teams from pre-construction through to delivery.

The Role

Manage and coordinate civils design activities across multiple schemes

*

Act as the key link between internal teams, consultants, and the client

*

Oversee design development, reviews, and technical approvals

*

Ensure designs are compliant with standards, specifications, and programme requirements

*

Support value engineering, buildability reviews, and risk mitigation

*

Attend design meetings and site as required

About You

*

Proven experience in a Civils Design Manager or Senior Design role

*

Strong background in highways, roads, and utilities projects

*

Good working knowledge of UK design standards (DMRB, MCHW, etc.)

*

Confident managing consultants and design coordination on live projects

*

Comfortable working in a fast-paced contractor environment

*

Permanent or freelance candidates considered
