About the Role

We’re recruiting for a proactive and detail-focused Transport Planner to join a fast-paced and high-performing logistics team. This is a hands-on position where you’ll be responsible for the daily planning, routing, and compliance of a large fleet operation.

Reporting directly to the Transport Planning Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring efficient resource utilisation, legal compliance, and strong service delivery. You'll also support continuous improvement in cost control and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage the routing of up to 80 tractor units and 140 refrigerated/bulker trailers
  • Maximise efficiency by reducing empty running and optimising routes
  • Allocate labour and fleet resources effectively across shifts
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics with internal stakeholders
  • Communicate with external customers and third-party partners
  • Maintain real-time updates in transport planning systems
  • Complete transport administration and compliance documents accurately
  • Deliver clear driver briefings and debriefings
  • Perform regular spot checks on vehicles and drivers
  • Coordinate breakdown response and liaise with service providers
  • Plan and track maintenance schedules (PMIs/MOTs)
  • Ensure compliance with EU Drivers’ Hours Regulations and Working Time Directive
  • Report and escalate vehicle incidents and accidents
Skills & Experience Required
  • Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Logistics Coordinator, or similar role
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and Operator Licence obligations
  • In-depth knowledge of EU Drivers’ Hours Rules and the WTD
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and make quick decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Competent in using transport planning and logistics software
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities
