The Role

We are seeking a caring, proactive Learning Mentor to join our team from January 2026. This is a full-time role working predominantly with Year 6 pupils, supporting them through key academic and emotional milestones, including preparation for SATs and the transition to secondary school. The successful candidate will work with children who may face barriers to learning, providing targeted pastoral support to help them build confidence, improve behaviour, develop resilience, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring for Year 6 pupils with social, emotional, or behavioural needs
Support pupils in developing positive attitudes to learning and improving self-esteem
Help pupils prepare for transition to secondary school and manage the demands of Year 6
Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to implement personalised support plans
Help pupils to manage emotions, build friendships, and develop effective learning habits
Liaise with parents, external agencies, and school staff to ensure a joined-up approach to support
Maintain accurate records of interventions and contribute to pupil progress reviews
Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all pupils at all timesPerson Specification

Essential:

Experience working with children (preferably in a school setting)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with children
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Patience, empathy, and a supportive, solution-focused approach
Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a teamDesirable:

Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., mentoring, counselling, behaviour support)
Knowledge of restorative practice or trauma-informed approachesWhat We Offer
