Purpose of the Role

The Daily Cover Teacher will provide high-quality teaching and classroom supervision across Primary year groups to ensure continuity of learning in the absence of the class teacher. This role requires flexibility, strong classroom management, and the ability to deliver lessons across a range of subjects.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Teaching & Supervision

*

Deliver lessons and learning activities in line with the planning provided by the class teacher or school.

*

Where planning is not available, teach age-appropriate activities and maintain pupil engagement throughout the day.

*

Manage the classroom effectively to ensure a calm, safe, and productive learning environment.

*

Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of different learners.

Behaviour & Classroom Management

*

Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently.

*

Use positive behaviour strategies to maintain expectations and foster a respectful classroom culture.

*

Address behaviour issues promptly and appropriately.

Learning Support & Assessment

*

Support pupils in accessing learning and provide explanations or scaffolding where needed.

*

Mark work and provide basic feedback following the school's policy (when required).

*

Report on learning and behaviour at the end of each day to relevant staff.

Professionalism & Collaboration

*

Build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and support staff.

*

Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and preparedness for each placement.

*

Adapt quickly to different school settings, routines, and expectations.

*

Liaise with school staff to ensure the smooth running of the class throughout the day.

Safeguarding & Duty of Care

*

Maintain a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.

*

Report any concerns in line with school and statutory procedures.

*

Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in your care.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (essential).

*

Degree or equivalent qualification.

*

Ongoing professional development in teaching or behaviour management (desirable).

Experience

*

Experience teaching across Primary key stages, particularly KS1 and KS2.

*

Experience managing classrooms independently.

*

Previous supply or cover experience (desirable but not essential).

Skills & Knowledge

*

Strong understanding of the Primary curriculum.

*

Excellent classroom management and flexibility.

*

Ability to quickly build rapport with pupils and staff.

*

Confidence in teaching a range of subjects and ages.

Effective communication and organisational skills
