Life Skills Teacher (QTS qualified)

Monday-Friday role as of September 2022

Looking to trial fully cleared DBS holders form the 6th of September 2022.

A fully qualified teacher who obtains QTS to teach secondary aged pupils the curriciulum. My client is a sepcial needs school situated in the borough of Southwark. Whilst the pupils are aged years 7-11 they do work from a primary level.

A degree in teaching, education or special needs is needed as well as the QTS licence. PGCE is welcom favourably. A backgroudn stemming from primary works better for the learners however if you are from a secondary background *with SEN exepreince your application will also be considered.

The role:

Your class will consist of a group of 8-9 students with complex needs and special needs
Students working at Year 1/ below Year 1 level so you will pitch the lesson at this pace and tone to help pupils within their special needs
Teaching the lessons and planning the lessons will be your responsibility and monitoring the vulernable learners progress, also
Liasing with your Teaching Assistants about children's progress
A willingnes to teach and helping young people become as independent as possible by helping teach and monitor day to day activities that can prove challenging

Teaching a range of learning areas such as: dressing, healthy choices and road safety as opposed to the mainstream school curriculum(A) Please note: Lessons would comprise of safety revision/practice, learning activity/s based on daily lifeskills and practicing of skills over a half term/term

Teach across Key Stages 3 + 4 with an individualised focused learning approach

Additional information about the Special school in Southwark:

A) Follows a secondary timetable, however a nurtuing approach will be successful for the class you will teach

B) Experience with a wide range of needs/ learning and behaviour management strategies is ESSENTIAL!

C) Class room sizes will be small, bespoke learning opportunities available. 2-4 TA's could be situated in your class
