Location: North Essex

Type: Full-time.

About the Role:

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Accounts Assistant to oversee the accounting records in the accounting department; nominal ledger, sales ledger, purchase ledger and VAT. You'll play a key role in guiding strategic decisions and ensuring the financial health. The accounting function will be moving from external to in-house, of which this is the first appointment in-house to solely start the accounting function, reporting to the Managing Director but also in contact with the external Finance Director plus the in-house operational team. Turnover is approximately £5m per annum for the two businesses combined.

This is a position in an office near North Essex, not suitable for remote working, and therefore your own car is essential due to the office location.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable and Payable

  • Receive, verify, and log supplier invoices and credit notes.
  • Maintain and reconcile supplier accounts.
  • Perform data entry and respond to calls/emails as required.
  • Process sales and purchase invoices.
  • Reporting for payment issues and resolve queries.
  • Monitor, report, and track overdue payments.

Bank

  • Process income and expenditure from bank feeds.
  • Ensure daily reconciliation with the bank.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant qualification but more importantly proven experience in a similar role.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High proficiency in Sage and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach.
  • Experience using Sage (essential).
  • Professional and discreet approach to handling confidential information.
