We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our growing rail and civil engineering team based in Basingstoke. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the commercial performance of rail infrastructure and civil engineering projects across the region.

You will play a pivotal role in protecting the company's commercial interests, ensuring robust contract management, and driving profitability across a portfolio of rail-related civil works projects.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage the commercial function across multiple rail civil engineering projects

* Oversee cost planning, forecasting, and reporting to ensure financial targets are met.

* Manage NEC (3/4) contracts, including compensation events, change control, and dispute resolution.

* Provide commercial guidance to project teams from tender stage through to final account.

* Negotiate and manage subcontractor packages and supplier agreements.

* Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.

* Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards and contractual requirements.

* Mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and delivery partners.

About You

* Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within rail and civil engineering.

* Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential).

* Experience delivering rail infrastructure projects (e.g., track, stations, structures, earthworks, drainage).

* Excellent commercial acumen with strong negotiation skills.

* Ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.

* Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

* Chartered status (RICS or equivalent) desirable but not essential
