Product Manager (Iot) - 6 Month Contract - Surrey / Remote

A leading technology company is seeking to recruit a Product Manager to work on a contract based in Surrey that is initially scheduled for 6 months. The Role This project is related to a new smart meter / connected home product that allows users to control and monitor their energy use via their smart phone. A Product Manager contractor is required to help further develop the product, to integrate and deploy it with new retail partners, and to serve end customers. The product business design team The product business design team consists of approximately 6 people, including product managers, business analysts, data scientists and UI designers. The team is responsible for: • Articulating the product vision and defining the roadmap of new and enhanced features and functionality to be developed. • Creating detailed business design documents which explain the required features, encompassing: o User experience and user testing o App design o Cloud platform and API functionality o Algorithm design, prototyping and testing o Hardware requirements and integration approach • User story definition and engineering team briefing • User acceptance testing • General support for our pre-sales and deployment teams in understanding the product functionality The Role An additional Product Manager is required to help design even more product functionality. They will be expected to take ownership of areas of new and existing functionality, for example broad areas such as home safety or specific items like smart heating scheduling. Working within a small team Product Managers are required to be able to undertake some detailed business and technical design work, as examples this may involve some of: working out high-level architectures and integration approaches, defining data structures and calculation methods within the cloud platform, finalising copy content within our app, or designing business processes associated with product use. As the design team covers the full end-to-end product solution, Product Managers are expected to be willing and able to get involved in work related to devices, gateways, the cloud platforms, APIs, algorithms and apps. We are interested in candidates with skills in all of these areas, with a preference for candidates who have skills, experience and interest in devices, platforms and APIs. Responsibilities • Identification of business and user needs • Development of product feature designs at both a low- and high-level of detail • Conducting user testing and researching competitor solutions • Liaison with other team members to gain specialist design content (UI, data science and alike) • Liaison with the wider team to undertake reviews of produced designs • Implementation and user acceptance testing of product features Desired skills experience Critical • Detailed design definition for digital / technology products • Moderate (or better) subject matter knowledge across at least two of: IoT device, cloud platform, data science, and digital domains • Able to self-motivate and manage own time and workload • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and detailed business and technical documentation • Flexible and willing to pick up work items outside of normal responsibilities Desirable • Product planning and roadmap development • User and market research • Working in and knowledge of the energy retail sector • Working in and knowledge of the smart home technology markets • Working in a large corporate • Working with nearshore and offshore teams • Working using agile methods Who the role may suit As well as individuals from a traditional technology product management background, this role could be of interest to technical and business analysts and technical and business architects who are looking to move into product management. Due to the requirement to produce detailed documentation describing product functionality, this role is unlikely to be suitable for product managers who come from a purely marketing / campaign management background.
