My client is a global maritime and defence technology innovator who provide advanced defence and commercial technologies to aerospace, aviation, land and sea, delivering solutions. They require a Specialist Safety Engineer to join a growing systems safety engineering team in Bristol (hybrid working basis). The successful applicant will receive exposure and experience working on large scale projects with opportunities to advance their career in the field of systems safety applied to maritime control and automation systems.

The successful candidate will carry out safety assurance activities for the development and in-service support of complex electronic systems. You will support the delivery of safe systems through the production of safety cases, underpinned by appropriate levels of safety engineering analysis and provide knowledge of safety regulations and standards to project teams.

You will be responsible for:

Providing technical safety assessments on design projects with support where needed, working towards being a Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Carrying out safety management activities
Leading in the derivation and assessment of safety requirements
Preparing safety and environmental arguments to support the safety case in compliance with all relevant standards, legislations and regulations;
Leading safety review meetings with safety stakeholders for purposes of Hazard Identification and Analysis (HIA) and safety / environmental risk reduction;
Lead in the use of both quantitative and qualitative techniques for analysing failures of both software and hardware

You will have:

Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office, DOORS, safety and reliability databases / tools)
Knowledge and experience in def stan 00-056 and 00-055
Experience in working to IEC 61508
Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative techniques for analysing failures of both software and hardware, using appropriate methods and techniques
Experience in both software and hardware development environments
Experience supporting development of hazards and risk assessments, including use of hazard logs
Knowledge of marine systems engineering (desirable)
