Position Purpose:

This Senior Manager, Systems Engineering position will be responsible for working with the Permobil R&D team to develop and implement systems engineering strategies for new product development programs which align with the strategic roadmap for the Permobil product portfolio. This will be accomplished by managing a team of systems engineers, requirements analysts, and risk engineers who will be responsible for executing new product development projects for the purposes of introducing new innovative technology. The role will be primarily focused on collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand and define customer needs and translate them into product functionality and performance requirements, design and interface requirements, system architecture, as well as constraints and trade-offs, which ultimately ensure customer satisfaction. He or She will provide leadership to in the form of technical design oversight and build the processes that enables Permobil to analyze and manage system complexity and risk and determine how to measure whether the deployed systems actually function as intended.


This position is for someone who is goal driven and enjoys working in a dedicated cross-functional team environment.

Key Duties:

Provide technical leadership to team of multidisciplinary Engineers

Drive talent development within the organization with the aim of developing a high functioning systems engineering team

Partner with cross-functional team to develop systems strategy and architecture in support of strategic product portfolio roadmap

Lead systems engineering team through the development of system architecture options. Objectively and holistically communicate tradeoffs during the architecture selection process

Develop standard work for implementing systems methodology and product risk management within new product development projects

Provide direction for standard systems and risk engineering activities as part of new product development

Provide oversight to ensure system designs meet the product level requirements collaborating closely the various engineering, design, marketing and program management disciplines

Responsible for the successfully overseeing the completion of several complex projects

Work collaboratively with other R&D managers to ensure the most efficient allocation of your resources

Work directly with the project managers and other leaders in the organization to resolve project issues and remove roadblocks

Translate customer needs, business constraints, manufacturing operations needs, and regulatory requirements into systems strategies and subsequently into product functional and performance requirements

Lead the technical team through technical risk identification and management as well as issue and test defect resolution

Lead design team in creating Medical Device Documentation (technical documentation, risk management file, DHF and DMR) as part of new product development projects

Ensure that Clinical evaluation plans and reports are developed in accordance with established processes, in close collaboration with Clinical Research and Evaluation and the Commercial Product Managers

Prioritize and handle multiple projects in a fast paced and result oriented environment

Authority & Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing technical leadership to multi-disciplinary design team and ensuring that engineering solutions meet the needs of end users and business stakeholders.


Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline

Advanced Degree, preferred

Knowledge Required:

7+ years of engineering experience

3+ years of experience leading technical teams

Advanced knowledge of and experience in product development methods (e.g. DFM, DOE, DFMEA, etc.)

Applied knowledge of Systems Methodology and implementation of "V-Model"

Knowledge in ISO 14971 Application of Risk Management to Medical Devices

Demonstrated ability to communicate and negotiate with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in Marketing, R&D, QA, Regulatory, Sourcing, and Operations.

Confident decision maker, with a proven ability to negotiate and influence others

Well-versed in Medical Device Design Controls.

Experience Required:

Applied experienced with systems engineering V-Model

Strong leadership skills demonstrated ability to define strategy and initiatives, drive execution, manage budgets, and develop talent

Demonstrated ability to lead and coach employees

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work collaboratively with others in a team environment

Able to work in the absence of complete information and make timely decisions

Excellent verbal and written communication

Organized and able to progress on many different tasks in parallel

Proficiency with structured problem-solving

Able to plan, estimate and accurately track technical deliverables

Fundamental understanding of hardware engineering disciplines

Adaptive, open to change and continuously looks for ways to improve and simplify complex work
