Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Infrastructure Project | North Yorkshire

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor delivering a major UK infrastructure scheme in the energy and power sector.

This role offers the chance to be part of a technically complex and nationally significant project based in North Yorkshire, contributing to the construction and delivery of critical energy infrastructure.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in the commercial management of the project - from procurement and subcontractor management through to cost reporting and final accounts. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and the wider commercial team to ensure successful delivery while maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing all commercial aspects of the project from start to finish

Overseeing subcontractor procurement, payments, and performance

Preparing and managing cost reports, forecasts, and valuations

Supporting the wider team with contract administration (NEC3/NEC4)

Leading on change management and risk identification

Mentoring and supporting junior members of the commercial team

About You

We're looking for someone with solid experience in the civil engineering or energy infrastructure sectors and a strong understanding of NEC contracts. You'll have excellent communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Essential experience:

Proven track record as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor on large-scale infrastructure projects

Experience working under NEC3 or NEC4 forms of contract

Strong commercial and cost management skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard commercial reporting tools

Ability to mentor and lead junior team members

Desirable experience:

Previous exposure to power, utilities, or HV projects

Early contractor involvement experience

Working towards or membership of a professional body (RICS / CICES)
