Electrical, Controls & Commissioning Engineer
Leicestershire (UK and occasional international travel required)
Up to £55,000 (dependent on experience)
Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (typically finish at 3:30pm on Fridays; occasional out-of-hours work required depending on project demands)
Rise10 Recruitment are partnering with a specialist engineering consultancy delivering process, automation, and compliance solutions to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and advanced life sciences sectors. They are now seeking an Electrical, Controls & Commissioning Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically complex projects within highly regulated GMP manufacturing and laboratory environments. From feasibility and front-end engineering design through to commissioning and validation, you’ll play a key role across the full project lifecycle—helping deliver compliant, high-quality engineering solutions for leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology organisations.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct site surveys within GMP-regulated facilities to assess existing electrical, control, and infrastructure systems
• Interpret User Requirement Specifications (URS) and Functional Design Specifications (FDS) to develop compliant electrical and automation design solutions
• Produce electrical schematics, single line diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules using AutoCAD (or similar tools)
• Develop and configure PLC and HMI control systems in line with GAMP 5 lifecycle methodologies
• Specify instrumentation, electrical hardware, and control components suitable for regulated environments
• Support development of validation documentation including DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ where required
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and lead or support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities
• Troubleshoot systems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions within regulated change control processes
• Act as the company’s on-site technical representative during installation and commissioning phases
• Supervise contractors and installation teams to ensure safe, compliant execution of electrical works
• Ensure all engineering activities align with cGMP, GAMP 5, and applicable regulatory standards
About You
• HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• Proven experience in electrical design and control systems engineering ideally within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other GMP-regulated industries
• Experience working in live manufacturing or laboratory environments
• Strong understanding of cGMP principles and regulated computerised systems
• Experience supporting FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities
• Strong documentation and attention to detail in regulated environments
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with engineering, validation, and quality stakeholders
• Flexible approach to travel within the UK and internationally as required
Desirable
• Experience using AutoCAD (training can be provided)
• Experience with PLC and HMI platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider
• Familiarity with GAMP 5 lifecycle methodology
• Experience contributing to IQ/OQ validation protocols
