As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are recruiting for a Senior Construction Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar-in-Cleveland on Teesside.
Role Purpose:
- Assists Area Project Manager with scope definition, planning and daily execution of the construction project, ensuring a safe execution, meeting project quality requirements.
- Manage all aspects of the mechanical and electrical installation promoting and implementing the highest standards for health and safety. Management and supervision of all construction activities to ensure works are completed safely and to plan.
- Responsible for all technical aspects of the project throughout the Construction phase. Ranging from scope definition, design reviews, Technical Query’s (TQ’s) etc, responsible for overseeing subcontract works on site.
- Report to Area Project Manager and liaise with other key members of the team such as Quality/QS/Design/Planning.
What you'll be doing As a Senior Construction Engineer you will have the following responsibilities;
- Work package creation in line with the execution strategy.
Assist with modularisation and fabrication yard assessment.
- Ensure all packages of work are delivered safely in accordance with CDM regulations.
- Manage the construction site on a day-to-day basis, including supervising contract
partners, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and
overseeing quality control.
- Ensure that packages are delivered to programme, budget, safety and quality
expectations/standards.
- Ensure accurate and complete records are kept, including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs,
ITPs, Record Drawings and other project communications/deliverables.
- Visit suppliers and monitor their activities if required.
- Where the package of works is subcontracted, the engineer is still accountable for the package deliverables and documents.
- Attend morning meetings with internal team/subcontractors to drive construction
priorities and targets.
- Liaise with offsite fabrication lead to coordinate deliveries to site.
- Identify risks to the Project Management team associated with the delivery of their
works raising EWNs.
- Draft site instructions for review and issue by Project Management team including
detailed descriptions of works required, location, programme & cost impact and
reference to any client led change event
- Provide cost information and time estimates that support the programme (where
applicable).
- Liaise with the planning team to ensure progress reporting is up to date and all risks
are identified ensuring that any additional work is assessed and executed in
accordance with the change management process.
- Good knowledge of engineering standards and codes of practice including
ATEX/DSEAR/ASME/EN.
- Engage and support other interfacing functions; Civil, Earthing, HV, Mechanical,
Electrical, instrumentation and commissioning.
Who we're looking for The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Experienced Senior Construction Engineer having held similar roles on comparable
projects in terms of scale and complexity.
- A sound understanding of the commercial and technical context of the business and
the ability to balance project requirement, risks and costs.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Proven track record of project delivery.
- Onshore UK major project delivery experience and compliance with CDM
requirements.
- Experience in managing modularised project delivery.
- Extensive experience in managing hazardous site construction activities including high pressure gas and high voltage systems and ensuring safety rules are followed.
- Experience in reviewing detailed construction plans and providing progress updates.
- Skilled at construction risk identification and mitigation.
- Effective leadership skills, including experience of leading teams and confidence in the ability to lead, influence and communicate with others to deliver targets are required.
- An appropriate and valid CSCS card is required
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Attend and contribute toward industry events
- Is a member of a professional body i.e., IET
- Proficient on O365
- Holds a current driving licence
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:
- Formal qualification (HNC/HND) in Engineering/Construction or experience
equivalent
- APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ
- SMSTS or Equivalent
- CCNSG / HS&E MAPS (Health, Safety & Environmental Test for Managers)
