Plumber / Pipefitter (Commercial / Industrial)
Role Summary
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Plumber / Pipefitter to join our mechanical/building services team. This is a hands-on role working across commercial and industrial projects. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, commissioning, and repair of pipework systems, ensuring compliance with health & safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
*
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan the layout and installation of pipe systems.
*
Measure, cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes and fittings using both hand tools and power tools.
*
Join pipework by welding, soldering, brazing, threading or using push-fit / press-fit techniques, depending on materials.
*
Install and secure supports, brackets, and hangers to hold pipe systems in place.
*
Pressure-test systems (e.g. with water or air) to ensure integrity and detect leaks, then carry out remedial work as needed.
*
Commission and maintain plumbing systems, including water supply, waste systems, gas lines, boilers, HVAC piping, or other relevant mechanical systems.
*
Inspect and repair existing pipe systems, diagnosing faults and carrying out effective and safe repairs.
*
Carry out routine and preventative maintenance to ensure system uptime and reliability.
*
Comply with health & safety regulations, company safe systems of work, and method statements.
*
Maintain accurate records of work done, materials used, and tests completed.
*
Collaborate with other trades (electricians, HVAC, construction) to ensure smooth project delivery.
*
Provide input to project teams on material specifications, quantities, costs, and scheduling.
Required Skills & Experience
*
Proven industry experience as a Plumber and/or Pipefitter, preferably in commercial or industrial environments.
*
Qualification relevant to plumbing / pipework (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
*
Valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety qualification.
*
Proficiency in reading and working from technical drawings and specifications.
*
Strong working knowledge of different pipe materials (e.g., copper, steel, plastic) and fitting techniques.
*
Experience with welding, soldering, or brazing, depending on the role.
*
Ability to carry out pressure testing (e.g., hydrostatic testing) to verify pipe integrity.
*
Good understanding of health & safety legislation and risk assessment processes.
*
Physical capability to handle the demands of the job - lifting, bending, working in confined spaces, etc.
*
Good organisational and communication skills, including maintaining accurate documentation.
Working Conditions & Hours
Full-time role, typically working on-site across various commercial/industrial buildings
Work may involve both installation (new-build) and maintenance / reactive repairs
Some flexibility may be required, depending on project needs (e.g., overtime, call-outs)
