Market Risk Analyst - European Gas Trading
London (Hybrid)
12-Month Contract
Day Rate: Negotiable

Are you a seasoned Market Risk Analyst with a passion for energy trading and a deep understanding of the European gas markets? We're hiring on behalf of a leading global energy company for a 12-month contract role based in London (hybrid working).

This opportunity sits at the heart of a fast-paced, dynamic energy trading business focused on cleaner, more diverse energy solutions. As a key member of the Gas Market Risk Team, you'll be responsible for assessing, measuring, and advising on market risks across structured deals and trading strategies within European gas markets.

The Role

As a Market Risk Analyst, you'll work closely with traders and commercial stakeholders, independently assessing risk and providing insights to help guide decision-making and ensure compliance with risk appetite frameworks.

You'll help model complex financial and physical optionality, collaborate on valuation strategies, and play a critical role in automating and improving risk processes.

Key Responsibilities
Partner with front office to assess new deals and monitor exposure/risk limits.
Independently evaluate and report on market risks and structured products.
Provide input on valuations, including gas options, swing contracts, and storage assets.
Support modelling of physical optionality and changing exposures with the Quant/Valuation teams.
Drive digitalisation and automation initiatives within risk and reporting processes.
Offer clear, independent guidance on risk/return dynamics.
Contribute to continuous improvement of risk controls, including SOX compliance.What You'll Bring
Proven experience in a market risk or risk advisory role within an energy trading environment.
Deep knowledge of the European gas, LNG, and biogas markets, including storage and transport infrastructure.
Strong understanding of derivative instruments and risk modelling.
Ability to work independently and challenge commercial stakeholders confidently.
Solid grasp of interrelated asset classes like power, carbon, and oil.
Tech-savvy mindset - able to harness technology for automation and insight generation.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills - capable of presenting to senior management.Preferred Background
Degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline (e.g. Economics, Maths, Science, Engineering, IT).
Familiarity with fair economic value (FEV) principles and global risk policies desirable.This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of the European gas trading market, helping shape strategy and ensure robust risk management for a global player.
