Technician / Specialist - Building Automation Systems

Job Description

Job Duties:

Responsible for performing new system start-ups, troubleshooting, and/or service agreement tasks and scheduled assignments to ensure that the building automation system is up and running, properly maintained and operating correctly.

Project Activities Include:

 Coordinates with internal project engineers and mechanical contractors to start up and troubleshoot new system installations. With new or existing installations, responds to emergency service calls as directed - normal working hours or after hours

 Responds to customer service calls (on-site, on-line or via telephone support), checks indicated points of problems, analyzes full requirements of system involved and check/tests any system components involved.

 Diagnoses issues or possible causes and determines corrective action and repairs system and/or system components.

 Performs preventative maintenance and diagnostics on building automation system and associated components according to service agreement

 Tests and verifies system readings ensuring optimal system operation - i.e. trend logs, alarms, loop tuning, etc.

 Identifies additional opportunities including time and material work, system upgrades, and service contract expansion to meet/exceed customer’s expectations of service provided

 Estimates, proposes, and proceeds with new work as per issued guidelines and customer approval

 Completes service repairs, replacements, upgrades, adjustments and calibration on automation system and components following issued tasking, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation instructions

 Performs system checkout and assists in automation system startup for service installed projects

 Coordinate electrical installation at job site for various service projects as required with electrical contractors

 Complete and submit written service work orders and reports detailing all aspects of each service activity

 Complete and submit timesheets, service work orders and other necessary information weekly

 If improper operation is due to another system or component, discuss problem with customer and/or office to advise best course of action to help resolve customer’s issues

 Works with other service or field technicians or external service providers or vendors to resolve problems

 Participates in job site final walk and/or final completion for systems to service job turnover - addresses warranty issues as well as service

 Conducts training and development classes for customer on site or in our office, as required

 Delivers technical support, operating coaching and direction to end users when applicable Other Activities Include:

 Works with and supports other Control Technicians, Project Managers and Department Heads to develop, implement, and measure policies and procedures required to obtain the results expected by the Company.

Qualifications/Experience/Education/Knowledge/ Skill:

 Associate degree (AA) in Electronics (minimum) or other related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 1-3 years engineer/service experience or 2 years as service trainee experience (minimum)

 Familiarity with mechanical and/or electrical systems, HVAC principles, and operation of energy management systems.

 Working engineering or programming background preferred

 Effective written and verbal communication skills

 Ability to build relationships and repertoire with customers

 Above average ability to interpret electrical schematic drawings and make field interface connections,

 Ability to effectively use Microsoft/Windows, Visio, and other Windows based applications.

My firm, Cowles Search, does most of its work in the field of HVAC controls, building automation, plus fire/life-safety/security all around the United States. Primarily, the roles we fill are for Controls Engineers, Controls Technicians, and Sales Engineers. We will also work to recruit for Project Managers and other related roles in HVAC, building systems, contracting and energy conservation. Our common client is a Controls Contractor, anywhere from a 10-person company to a $100M company with hundreds of employees, and from small markets to very large metropolitan markets. In many markets, we are placing fire alarm, life safety and security (card access and CCTV) salespeople, system designers, IT/Network electricians, inspectors and management/leaders.
