Estates Technician / Estates Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Technician to join their Estates & Facilities team, to continue to provide safe, efficient and high-quality environments for patients, visitors and staff across their hospital estate.

In this varied and hands-on role, you will undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM), respond to breakdowns, and carry out minor works across a wide range of electrical and mechanical building services. Your day-to-day duties will include working on critical systems such as generators, fire alarms, lighting and power, boilers, ventilation, chiller plant, hot and cold-water systems, and medical gas equipment. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs efficiently, and ensure all work complies with policies, statutory regulations and KPIs.

You will also monitor and adjust Building Management Systems (BMS), support emergency responses including fire alarm activations and lift entrapments, and liaise with contractors to facilitate safe access and system shutdowns. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will frequently interact with clinical teams, managers and other Estates colleagues to minimise disruption and maintain patient safety.

To succeed in this role, you must have completed a recognised electrical or mechanical engineering apprenticeship or hold an equivalent qualification. You will bring post-apprenticeship experience, strong practical knowledge of healthcare or building services systems, and a sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation. You should be able to work independently, solve problems confidently, and prioritise tasks in a busy environment. IT literacy, including use of CAFM systems, is also required.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop further specialist skills and undertake Competent Person duties across key disciplines.
