A well-established contractor operating within the construction and building services sector is seeking an experienced Head of Finance & Operations to join the senior leadership team. This position plays a central role in strengthening the financial and operational foundations of a growing business that delivers a wide range of commercial, industrial, residential and public-sector projects.The organisation is entering a period of consolidation and operational improvement, and this role will help shape the next phase of structure, efficiency and growth.
Role overview This is a senior leadership position combining financial management, strategic oversight and operational responsibility. The role requires someone comfortable leading finance at a high level while also working hands-on across day-to-day operations. You will work closely with directors and project teams to enhance reporting, controls, processes and the overall operating model.
Key responsibilities- Lead the full finance function including reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow.
- Oversee payroll, ledgers, project costing and management accounts.
- Drive implementation and improvement of finance and operational systems, including job-management systems and integration with finance platforms.
- Produce commercial insights, margin reporting and performance dashboards.
- Work closely with project, commercial and delivery teams to support financial discipline.
- Oversee core operational support functions such as HR, Fleet, IT, Health & Safety, Compliance, Risk and Office Management.
- Build structure, consistency and rhythm across operational and administrative processes.
- Support the leadership team in shaping medium-term strategy and operational plans.

About you- ACA, CIMA or equivalent with significant senior finance experience.
- Background in construction, M&E, building services or another project-based industry.
- Strong track record of process improvement, systems implementation and financial leadership.
- Confident managing multiple operational areas and working at pace.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across departments.
