Our teams develop and maintain the National Trust’s public-facing website & transactional web applications. There is a very positive feeling within our teams and a can-do attitude to finding the right solution to business requirements. We work in small cross-functional agile teams, delivering real business benefit on a regular schedule into production with good tech, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

As a Lead Developer in the National Trust Digital Team you will lead one of our development teams, with responsibility for the technical direction of the team’s products, ensuring that consistently high-quality software is delivered into production.

Our applications are all deployed into cloud hosted environments in AWS, developed using various technologies spanning Java, Spring framework, and frontend web technologies.

**What you'll be doing**

As a Lead Developer in the National Trust Digital Team you will lead one of our development teams, with responsibility for the technical direction of the team’s products, ensuring that consistently high-quality software is delivered into production.

You will guide the way in which the team works in partnership with the product and delivery managers and ensure that the team adhere to best practices such as peer reviews, automated tests, coding standards, agile development methodologies.

You will be proficient in a wide range of technical systems and involved in identifying appropriate solutions and approaches to requirements the wider business has.

You will play a key role in contributing to our dev community, promoting continuous improvement both within your team and across our other teams, and helping to progress our vision to move towards a true Continuous Delivery pipeline.

You will be responsible for line managing and mentoring experienced Developers. You will also develop, upskill and support our Software Developer Apprentices.

**Who we're looking for**

Agile working:

* Excellent Leadership skills with the ability to lead and inspire an agile development team. * You will form part of our Digital Revenue / Website agile team to help architect and implement new features and technologies * You have worked using an Agile Software Delivery approach and have experience of working within a highly collaborative and cross-functional Agile environment * Our agile teams are proud of the quality products they produce therefore 'quality is every-thing' and this is something you must demonstrate. * You must have a background in development and maintenance of web-based product solutions with a focus on quality, performance, reliability, scalability and resiliency. * You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of using software engineering tools and best practices

Core Technical skills:

* Strong Java 8+ enterprise web development * Expert with Spring, REST, Graph QL APIs and Microservices * Experienced with HTML, Javascript tech e.g. jQuery, Vue.js, Single page apps * Experienced with containerisation (Docker) * Experienced with database technologies including Oracle, Elasticsearch, Mongo and Postgres * Experienced with Maven, Git and CI tools (ideally Bamboo, Jenkins) * Experienced with the Atlassian Product suite including Jira, Bitbucket and Bamboo * Enthused by Unit, Functional and Integration Testing * Familiar with BDD and Cucumber * Familiar with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless)
