Highways Safety Inspector

Location: Stroud Depot - Full Time Stroudwater Depot Stroudwater Interchange Fromebridge Whitminster GL2 7NJ

Working Hours: 40 per week (Start Time 7:30am) Mon - Fri

Pay Rate: £13.50 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct regular safety inspections of highways, footpaths, and cycleways in accordance with the authority's inspection policy.

*

Identify, assess, and record defects such as potholes, damaged signage, worn road markings, or debris.

*

Use handheld/mobile technology to record inspection findings and generate works orders for repairs.

*

Categorize defects by risk level and initiate appropriate responses in line with service-level agreements (SLAs).

*

Liaise with contractors, utility companies, and other stakeholders to coordinate repairs and works.

*

Attend incident sites and emergency call-outs as required (e.g. traffic collisions, flooding, fallen trees).

*

Maintain accurate inspection records for use in legal and insurance claims.

*

Ensure compliance with health and safety, CDM Regulations, and relevant highways legislation (e.g., Highways Act 1980).

*

Participate in training, toolbox talks, and team meetings.

*

Monitor and report on completed works to ensure quality and specification standards are met.

Person Specification:

Essential:

*

Experience in highway maintenance or inspection.

*

Knowledge of highways safety standards and inspection regimes.

*

Good understanding of the Highways Act 1980 and related regulations.

*

Strong observational skills and attention to detail.

*

Full UK driving license (Category B).

*

Basic IT literacy (use of inspection software or mobile apps).

*

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Temp to Perm role for Highways Safety Supervisor. Will be taken on permanent basis after 3 months if suitable to all parties.

Training and qualifications have been completed (organised and paid for by Ringway Gloucestershire Highways)

Suitable candidates will have valid driving licence and demonstrable experience of working in highways environment
