Contract: Term-time only

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN or SEMH Teaching Assistant to join wonderful schools in and around Portsmouth.

About the Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities. Your main responsibilities will include:

Providing one-to-one and small group support to help students access the curriculum effectively

Assisting teachers in adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual needs

Supporting students' social and emotional development to build confidence and independence

Helping manage behaviour in a positive and supportive way

Working closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and other staff to implement personalised learning plans

What is a SEN School?
A Special Educational Needs (SEN) school is designed to cater specifically for students who face challenges that affect their learning. This might include physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional and behavioural needs. SEN schools provide tailored support and specialist resources to ensure every student can achieve their full potential in a safe, understanding environment.

Who We're Looking For:

Previous experience working in an SEN setting is desirable but not essential - we welcome candidates who are eager to learn and committed to supporting young people

Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills

The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff

Flexibility and a proactive approach to meeting the diverse needs of our students

A team player who is keen to contribute to a supportive school community

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
