Contract Opportunity: Principal Mechanical Engineer
Location: North West (Hybrid - 1 day remote)
Contract Length: 12 months (with strong likelihood of extension)
Rate: Up to £60 per hour (Outside IR35)
Hours: 4-day week (Monday to Thursday, 10-hour days)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex, high-integrity mechanical systems within the nuclear sector. This role offers the chance to take technical ownership of key projects and contribute to nationally significant work.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the mechanical engineering delivery across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with nuclear and safety standards.
Provide technical oversight of mechanical designs, calculations, and documentation.
Conduct and lead design reviews, optioneering, and hazard studies (e.g., HAZOP, ALARP).
Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to the development of internal capability.
Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate:

Strong background in mechanical engineering within the nuclear industry.
Extensive experience in the design and delivery of safety-critical mechanical systems.
Glovebox design experience is highly desirable.
Familiar with engineering standards and regulatory requirements in nuclear projects (e.g., AWE, Sellafield).
Live Security Clearance (SC) is a significant advantage.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
