MS591 - Yard OperativeSalary: £30,000 per annum Location: Haydock Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Yard Operative on behalf of one of our clients. You will ensure the smooth and efficient running of the depot. The role involves receiving, storing, moving, picking, packing and dispatching goods while maintaining accurate stock records. The Depot Operative will also be responsible for upholding health, safety and environmental compliance while ensuring high standards of housekeeping. This position requires flexibility, teamwork and attention to detail to meet company performance standards and customer expectations.Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, check and store goods efficiently, ensuring items are undamaged and recorded accurately.
- Pick, pack and prepare orders for dispatch according to company procedures.
- Load and unload goods safely using forklifts or other materials handling equipment (MHE) where necessary.
- Maintain accurate stock records and conduct regular stock checks to ensure operational readiness.
- Prioritise test & run (T&R) equipment in line with business needs.
- Keep the depot clean, tidy and well-organised to support operational efficiency and safety.
- Adhere to all health, safety and environmental regulations within the depot environment.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of goods, including hazardous materials if applicable.
- Follow correct procedures for waste management, packaging and disposal to minimise environmental impact.
- Participate in workplace safety checks, including forklift inspections, fire alarm checks, racking inspections and first aid box audits.
- Maintain the workplace safety and compliance safety register, ensuring all records are up to date.
- Operate a range of depot equipment including forklifts, pallet trucks.
- Use depot management systems for stock tracking and order processing.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment are used correctly and maintained in safe working order.
- Stay updated on new depot technologies and processes to enhance efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth and efficient depot operations.
- Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to fulfil their requirements.
- Promote company values and maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Provide additional support to the operations team during peak periods to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Respond promptly to customer or operational emergencies to minimise disruption to services.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
- Forklift Licence (training can be provided).
- Competence in using depot management software and basic IT applications.
- Understanding of workplace safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong ability to interact with team members, customers and suppliers professionally.
- Quick thinking to resolve issues that may arise in a fast-paced depot environment.
- Competent with IT systems and software packages is desirable.
