Job Type: Permanent, FullTime

Salary: £110,000 - £125,000 per annum

As a senior lawyer, you will be part of a team reporting to the General Counsel and will provide pragmatic legal and compliance advice to the shipping side of the business globally in order to mitigate business risks and enable the business to make better decisions in a fast-paced environment.

You will also be a critical part of the global compliance regime covering sanctions, AML, KYC, bribery and corruption, insider trading etc.


* Responsible for day to day advice to ship brokers on legal disputes both between the company and its clients and between clients in order to assist brokers to understand the disputes that arise.* Responsible for day to day negotiation of broking contracts, consultancy agreements and general commercial contracts.* Responsible for day to day advice on sanctions and compliance programme in a fast and proactive fashion.* Instructing and managing the legal relationships in terms of outsourced work with external legal providers, to ensure all legal matters are resolved in a timely, compliant and cost-effective manner regularly reviewing the level of service achieved.* Represent the company externally at industry bodies.* Fulfil any additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Technical Experience & Knowledge:Mandatory Requirements:* Experience of working at mid-level in a corporate/commercial legal team* Significant experience in shipping law - covering all aspects of charter parties and vessel sale and purchase* Significant experience in dealing with sanctions enquiries affecting shipping* Some experience in dealing with negotiating broking or contractors' agreements

Desirable Requirements:* Experience of working in an in-house environment* Experience in dealing with compliance - KYC, insider dealing, ABC, market manipulation* Experience of acquisition contracts* Knowledge of FCA regulated entities as they pertain to broking and advisory activities* Experience of IT contracts* Experience of working with outsourced providers
