Job Summary:

Collaborating closely with our sister company, Soltherm, we specialise in energy-efficient retrofitting and fire safety solutions for local authorities, social housing providers, and private homeowners across the UK. We are seeking a commercially minded and strategically focused Senior Finance Manager to support the Financial Controller in overseeing all aspects of financial planning, reporting, and operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health of the organisation, delivering insights to guide project-level decisions, and driving continuous improvement across financial processes.

This is a high-impact role for a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working collaboratively with technical and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities:

The role encompasses a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:

• Support the Financial Controller with financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes

• Collaborate with project managers and quantity surveyors to monitor cost control and profitability

• Conduct detailed financial analysis on project bids, investment decisions, and performance reviews

• Assist in reviewing and negotiating financial terms with subcontractors and suppliers

• Lead the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and project reports

• Ensure accurate allocation of costs, unbilled works, and VAT treatment across projects

• Contribute to cash flow planning and scenario modelling

• Identify areas for cost optimisation and process improvements

• Help manage compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls

• Support year-end audits and liaise with external auditors and stakeholders

• Act as deputy to the Financial Controller as required, stepping into leadership responsibilities when needed

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will be commercially focused, detail-oriented, and confident working in a project-based environment. You'll bring strong technical finance skills, sound judgement, and a collaborative mindset to help drive operational excellence across the finance function.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong financial analysis and planning skills

• Commercial acumen and project finance experience

• Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

• Familiarity with subcontractor agreements and contract evaluation

• Confidence using and improving financial systems (IFS experience is a plus)

• Solid understanding of VAT, CIS, and UK accounting standards

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to prioritise and work independently in a fast-paced environment

• Commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement

Job Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar finance role (construction, engineering, or retrofit industry preferred)

• Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)

• Strong understanding of UK GAAP and regulatory requirements

• Advanced Excel and financial modelling experience

• Excellent command of written and spoken English

• Experience working in a hybrid or cross-functional environment
