SEN Primary Teaching Assistant

Pay - £95 daily, paid weekly

Location - Plymouth, Devon 

Contract type - Temporary-Permanent

Contract term - Full-time

Are you someone looking for a rewarding role working in one of our amazing SEN provisions in Plymouth? This role is based in a welcoming primary school (ages 4–11) that caters for pupils with, moderate learning difficultiescommunication and interaction needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

You will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment where every child can thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEN, SEMH and adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility needs in a respectful and dignified manner.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Encourage independence and life skills alongside academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reviews.

What We’re Looking For

  • Compassionate, patient individuals with a genuine interest in SEN education.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn specialist techniques.
  • Previous experience with SEN strategies and communication aids is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.
  • A proactive, team-focused approach and commitment to safeguarding children.
  • Support and encourage students to engage in learning activities both inside and outside the classroom and promote positive relationships between all in the school community.
  • Be aware of and comply with Policies and Procedures relating to: Child Protection; Health & Safety; Security; and Confidentiality.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required 
  • Participate in training, learning activities, performance development, and maintain record of own professional development
