Alecto Recruitment are partnering with a market leader within the Waste to Energy sector, who is seeking an O&M Assistant Shift Team Leader to support the Shift Team Leaders on a Power Station in Berkshire.

Key Responsibilities

Operate, start up, and shut down plant systems and equipment in accordance with established procedures, permit requirements, and safety standards
Monitor and control plant parameters through Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and manual systems, taking prompt corrective action where deviations are identified
Carry out routine inspections and plant walkdowns, ensuring equipment is operating within normal parameters and any defects are promptly recorded and reported
Maintain accurate operational logs, check sheets, and shift records, and contribute to clear, thorough shift handovers
Support the Shift Team Leader in coordinating day-to-day operational activities, acting as the primary point of contact in their absence
Prepare and issue safe systems of work, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) isolations and permit to work documentation to support planned and reactive maintenance
Liaise with maintenance, engineering, and HSE teams to prioritise work orders and ensure plant is returned to service safely following maintenance activities
Identify, report, and respond to equipment faults, abnormal conditions, and HSE concerns in a timely and effective manner

Skills & Qualifications

Engineering or process-related qualification (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 5 years' experience in power generation or similar heavy industrial environment (Petrochemicals, Oil and Gas, Waste or Water).
Experience working with DCS-controlled plant systems
Knowledge of HSE standards and safe systems of work
HSE-related certifications (desirable)
Strong safety awareness with a proactive and responsible approach
Good technical understanding of plant systems, controls, and interlocks
Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to respond under pressure
Team-oriented with clear communication and collaboration skills
Adaptable, reliable, and able to work in a shift-based environment
Understanding of alarms, trips, and plant control loops is essential
Ability to act decisively and safely during emergency situations
Fluent English (written and verbal) required
Participation in emergency response activities as required
