Sous Chef - Leadership Role in a Prestigious Cambridge Setting

Salary: £36,900 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, worked on a two-week rota. Flexibility required. Overtime available.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join a highly regarded kitchen team based in the heart of historic Cambridge. This is an opportunity to work in a unique, inspiring setting while delivering high-quality dining experiences.

You'll support the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, mentoring junior staff, and helping shape a creative, seasonal menu that reflects both innovation and tradition.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead kitchen operations during service, supervising and supporting the team

* Ensure consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction

* Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop seasonal and event menus

* Oversee stock management, ordering, and cost control measures

* Support the execution of banquets, formal dinners, and high-profile events

* Uphold food safety, hygiene, and allergen compliance at all times

* Provide mentoring, coaching, and on-the-job training for junior chefs

What We're Looking For

Qualifications:

* NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent)

* Formal training in HACCP and COSHH

Skills & Experience:

* Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar senior kitchen role

* Excellent communication and leadership abilities

* In-depth understanding of food safety and allergen regulations

* Proven ability to supervise and motivate a kitchen team

* Experience with banqueting or large-scale catering is highly desirable
