We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Scientific Manager to join our Bio Resource team in our Scientific Operations department.
About the role:As a Senior Scientific Manager, you will manage an operational function to ensure alignment with other teams and service user groups to ensure delivery of high-quality scientific services.
You will be responsible for:- Full line management of team
- Working with Head of Department to set objectives, and key results giving updates to stakeholders
- Managing resources to deliver objectives to agreed standards and timescales
- Responding to evolving requirements and managing competing demands
- Communicating across the different scientific operational areas to ensure a shared understanding of service, demand, delivery requirements, risks, issues, challenges and opportunities
- Supporting the development and optimisation of services
About Us:Our Scientific Operations teams support our scientists to carry out their research at size and a scale. The three main areas of Scientific Operations are:
- Sequencing Operations - pipeline research, technical development and laboratory automation activities
- Cellular Operations - research and technical development activities
- Strategy and Delivery - facilitating the delivery of research through professional project and relationship management, quality assurance and executive business administration.
About You:You will be an experienced operations and people manager and have an understanding of biological techniques such as sample handling, cell biology techniques, sequencing technologies with experience in working in a laboratory. This varied role involves collaborating closely with the Scientific Operations teams as well as the Research groups at the Institute. You will also work closely with Informatics, IT and management operations.
Essential Skills:- BSc in a biological science or equivalent experience.
- Good understanding of sample handling, cell biology techniques and sequencing technologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
Experience
- Working in a laboratory operational environment supporting research, testing, analysis and technical development.
- Managing samples and associated data records on a large scale.
- Formal line management with a proven ability to motivate, develop and coach team members and resolve a range of people related issues.
- Track record of delivering projects to agreed schedules, budgets and quality standards.
- Leading and driving change projects and improvement.
- Experience working effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and fostering an inclusive environment
Skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people at all levels.
- Strong customer focus, especially with regard to quality, service delivery & issue resolution.
- Organisational skills with the ability to plan and schedule work for self and team, prioritise effectively, take initiative and adapt plans quickly.
- Critical thinking - analyse, interpret, evaluate, and make judgments about data and information to guide operational decision making.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot process issues.
- Budget and resource management - plan, allocate, and control resources to achieve objectives.
Other Information:Salary per annum (dependent upon skills and experience): £54,757-£65,051
