  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Head of English to lead and manage the English department, inspiring students and elevating their aspirations and achievements.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop and implement policies for English that align with high-quality teaching and learning standards.
  • Promote the subject across the institution, highlighting its importance and value.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the subject's delivery and its impact on pupil achievement, using this knowledge to inform the school development plan and create action plans.
  • Foster pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical, and mental development alongside British values in the teaching of English.
  • Engage with pupils, parents, and staff to evaluate the subject's effectiveness, aligning feedback with the institution's values, visions, and aims.
  • Collaborate with the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) to tailor the curriculum to diverse pupil needs, including those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
  • Enhance careers education through English, demonstrating how the subject can lead to various career opportunities.
  • Manage additional staff in the English area, ensuring effective deployment and utilization of teaching assistants.
  • Coordinate with feeder primary schools and the Trust on subject-related transitions, events, projects, and activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Head of English or a similar leadership role in education.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical methods and curriculum implementation.
  • Ability to lead and manage a department, promoting a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience in strategic planning and staff management.
  • Familiarity with current educational technologies and teaching platforms.
