One of my local government clients is seeking an experienced Homeless & Housing Solutions Officers to join their Housing Services team on a temporary basis. This is a frontline role requiring a strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation, prevention strategies, and customer-focused housing advice.

You'll be joining a proactive and committed team delivering statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, supporting residents to resolve their housing needs and avoid homelessness wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide timely and effective housing advice and homelessness prevention support to individuals and families at risk of losing their accommodation.

*

Manage cases under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including taking homelessness applications and completing Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs).

*

Conduct housing needs assessments, establish statutory duties, and make legally robust decisions.

*

Work collaboratively with landlords, support services, and internal departments to deliver prevention and relief outcomes.

*

Support clients to access temporary and permanent accommodation options, including private rented and supported housing.

*

Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with statutory timescales and council policy.

*

Participate in team meetings and contribute to performance improvement activities.

Essential Criteria:

*

Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Homelessness and Housing Solutions role within a local authority.

*

Up-to-date working knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing policy, and relevant case law.

*

Experience drafting s.184 decisions, completing assessments, and managing complex caseloads.

*

Strong interpersonal skills, able to deal with vulnerable individuals sensitively and professionally.

*

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment.

*

Proficient with housing IT systems and case management software.

*

Willingness and ability to attend the office 1-2 days per week
