Salary: £40000 - £60000/annum

Our client is seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to carry out the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of mechanical equipment across a range of sites and sectors. This role will involve working with pumps, valves, pipework, and process equipment—often in water, wastewater, and other industrial environments. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experience, and a proactive attitude to health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Maintenance
*
Install, align, and assemble mechanical systems including pumps, gearboxes, pipework, and support structures.
*
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance activities on mechanical equipment.
*
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
*
Use appropriate tools, lifting equipment, and safety systems for accurate installation and alignment.
Safety & Compliance
*
Follow site-specific health and safety protocols and risk assessments (RAMS).
*
Ensure work is completed in compliance with company and industry HSEQ standards.
*
Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and permit-to-work systems.
*
Report and resolve any issues relating to mechanical safety or non-conformities.
Site Support & Collaboration
*
Work collaboratively with supervisors, project managers, electricians, and subcontractors on site.
*
Ensure clear communication of progress and any delays or issues.
*
Support commissioning and handover activities, including testing and inspections.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
*
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting, or equivalent time-served experience
*
Experience working with mechanical systems in industrial or utility environments
*
Competent in using hand tools, lifting gear, and workshop machinery
*
Full UK driving licence
*
Ability to work from technical drawings and P&IDs
*
Strong safety awareness and practical problem-solving skills
Desirable:
*
CSCS or ECS card
*
EUSR Water Hygiene or Confined Space Training
*
SSSTS or relevant site safety certification
*
Experience working on water treatment or process plant installations
*
Forklift, MEWP, or PASMA certification
