JOB PURPOSE
To undertake the role of a Building Control Surveyor within the Building Control section of Regeneration and Economic Development Service Area.

To undertake technical assessments/activities based on their professional competency and make, decisions on those assessments, using skillsthat would have been gained through qualifications and practical experience,to effectively deliverthe Building Control function throughout the Council sjurisdiction and as part of any partnering orsimilarscheme, ensuring buildings comply with the relevantregulatory standardsin terms of health,safety,sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility and design.

The postholder will also assess dangerousstructures and implement immediate remedial works.

The post holder must only carry out unsupervised functions and/or activities that are within the limits of their competence, unless supervised.

The post-holder will work within a Service Area dealing with a range of building control
and integrated planning and development duties.

1. To carry out all duties in accordance with the Councils Building Control Policy Document. Candidates will be required to possess or obtain relevant level of certification in accordance with the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator

2. Checking of submitted full plan applications; examining Building Notices to determine validity; and the checking and verification of certificates submitted by approved persons/approved inspectors, which have been submitted to show compliance with relative Building standards etc. incl. allied legislation.

To examine plans to determine if the estimate of the cost of building work shown is reasonable and the deposited fee correct.

4. Inspections of construction work at various stages during the construction process within the limits of the post holders competence including keeping accurate records of inspections/completions.

The number of visits to depend on the size and complexity of the building/building site and number of problems arising.

5. Either inside the band of competence, or outside of it but under supervision, advising building contractors, architects, Elected Members and the general public on technical matters relating to the requirements of the Building Regulations and general construction matters.

Provide practicalregulatory solutions to design and construction problems, including in relation to fire engineering solutions
