Salary: £55000 - £65000/annum + hybrid working

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Nuclear Division based in Cockermouth, Cumbria. This is an urgent hire for a commercially astute QS with strong construction knowledge who is confident navigating contracts, commercial procedures and client negotiations within a specialist, highly regulated environment.

This role would suit someone with solid post-education industry experience who is comfortable working independently, managing commercial processes, and driving value through contractual understanding rather than technical fire-sector expertise.

Key responsibilities

Managing valuations, cost reporting and commercial forecasting

*

Preparing and handling compensation events and early warning notices

*

Reviewing, interpreting and working proactively with contracts to protect commercial position

*

Scenario planning and commercial risk management

*

Working within established commercial systems and procedures (CEMAR experience beneficial)

*

Liaising with project stakeholders, including clients who may challenge positions commercially

Candidate requirements

*

Typically 8 to 10+ years' experience post-education in Quantity Surveying or commercial construction roles

*

Strong construction sector knowledge (nuclear experience beneficial but not essential)

*

Confident reading, interpreting and leveraging contracts commercially

*

Familiarity with structured commercial systems/processes (CEMAR advantageous)

*

Resilient communicator, comfortable negotiating and handling client pushback

*

Self-sufficient, organised, and able to operate in a less urban project environment

Office based in Cockermouth, Cumbria

*

Hybrid working available: approx. 3 days onsite/office, 1-2 days remote

*

Role sits within the client's Nuclear Division supporting specialist projects
