Our client, a prominent player in the construction industry, is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specialising in Building Services to join their expanding team. This is a permanent position where you will play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of high-quality mechanical systems for building projects across the UK and Ireland. The role requires a solid background in mechanical building services, including HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead or support the design and specification of mechanical building services systems in various sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs including HVAC systems, heating and cooling systems, domestic hot and cold water services, renewable energy systems, compressed air and steam systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, schematics, and equipment schedules
  • Carry out mechanical design calculations for pipework, ductwork, pumps, fans, and plant selections
  • Prepare and review specifications, reports, and technical submittals
  • Collaborate with electrical, architectural, and structural engineers to ensure coordinated design solutions
  • Attend design team meetings, client briefings, and site visits
  • Mentor and support junior engineers
  • Ensure compliance with current UK and Irish regulations and standards
Job Requirements:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit MEP for BIM modelling and clash detection
  • Significant experience with HVAC, heating and cooling, and renewable systems in building services
  • Solid understanding of CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Part L, and BSRIA Application Guides
  • Familiarity with energy and carbon reduction strategies aligned with UK Net Zero targets
  • Experience using Hevacomp, IES VE, and MagiCAD for design and analysis
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and client engagement skills
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with lifecycle cost analysis and embodied carbon assessments
  • Knowledge of UK BIM Level 2 standards and ISO 19650
  • Experience in on-site construction support, commissioning, and witnessing
  • Familiarity with project delivery under RIBA Plan of Work stages
