On-Site Tooling Engineer
Location: Sunderland (site-based)
Salary: £29,000 + 16% Shift Allowance (approx £4785) + VC Bonus + Benefits
Shift Pattern: Monday-Friday, earlys (6:00am-3::00pm) and lates (4:30pm-1:30am)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled mechanical engineer to join a growing technical service team as an On-Site Tooling Engineer supporting industrial tooling systems at a major customer site in Sunderland.
This is a hands-on, site-based role responsible for maintaining and supporting DC tooling and spindle equipment. You'll carry out preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibrations, and act as a key technical contact for second-line support.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Performing preventative maintenance and annual calibrations on DC tooling and spindle equipment.
* Diagnosing faults and completing on-site repairs, including software updates and controller reprogramming.
* Providing second-line support and technical assistance to customer personnel.
* Maintaining strong knowledge of tightening techniques and relevant tooling control software.
* Liaising with the customer daily to communicate any production-impacting issues and offer effective solutions.
* Completing all reporting and documentation in line with agreed site processes.
* Managing tooling schedules, flagging discrepancies, and proposing improvement opportunities.
* Organising spare parts and maintaining a 5S-compliant workspace according to site standards.
* Supporting weekend work and schedule adjustments when required, based on customer needs.
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
* HNC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or minimum 5 years' experience in a relevant engineering/service role.
* Strong understanding of industrial power tools, including pneumatic, battery, DC, and spindle-driven systems.
* Experience with software systems, networking protocols, and PLC/line control systems.
* Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Windows-based environments.
* Able to work independently on-site with strong self-motivation and attention to detail.
* Excellent communicator who can build relationships with internal teams and customer contacts.
* Familiarity with manufacturing or customer service environments.
Desirable:
* Background in manufacturing support or customer service-based technical roles.
* Ability to provide innovative solutions and continuous improvement ideas.
* Strong focus on quality and detail-oriented problem-solving.
Additional Info:
Reporting to Service Contracts Coordinator
Must be based locally to Sunderland - no company vehicle or mileage allowance provided
Flexibility required for occasional schedule changes aligned with customer activity
Some annual leave may need to coincide with customer shutdown periods
Benefits:
