Our client is an ambitious and growing plant hire company. Based in the Chertsey area, they work throughout London and the Southern Home Counties. They are looking for a motivated and organised Transport Manager to lead their transport operations. You'll plan and optimise routes, ensure the fleet and drivers remain safe and compliant, and keep customers informed so their deliveries run smoothly. If you've got great communication skills, enjoy working with people, and can stay calm under pressure, this could be the role for you. Experience in transport or logistics is essential. Experience of Construction, Heavy Plant and the Hire Industry is desired. A Transport Manager CPC is desirable.

The role

The focus of this role is to oversee and coordinate the transportation and logistics of the companies services. To ensure employees deliver products on time, safely and in good condition.

Job description and responsibilities

* Plan and organise routes efficiently

* Plan and supervise the deliveries from depot to the end-user

* Schedule daily and weekly routes

* Keep system up to date on status of deliveries

* Ensure safety and compliance of vehicles and drivers

* Comply with all requirements of Transport Operators License (driver licenses, hours, vehicle licensing, documentation, inspections and checks)

* Adhere to HSE Workplace Transport regulations

* Define safe systems of work and provide guidance, training and equipment for staff

* Stay up to date on safety regulations

* Monitor vehicle performance and maintenance schedules to maximise fleet lifespan and reliability

* Proactively communicate with customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, and any changes, ensuring a professional and positive customer experience

* Effective management of the team - recruitment, induction, performance management and appraisals, training, rewards, morale

* Organise training sessions for employees (e.g. proper use of machines and handling of hazardous material)

Skills and experience

* Experience of managing transport and logistics is essential

* Able to work well under pressure

* Good communication skills

* Good IT and organisational skills

* Good literacy and numeracy

* A clean Category C driving licence would be desirable

* A valid Transport Manager CPC is desirable
