Construction Estimator

Job Description

Estimate and assist managing multiple civil construction projects demonstrating maturity, leadership with others, civil construction site knowledge (min 5 yrs.) with experience in estimating and managing projects exceeding 5 million dollars, technology proficient, strong reporting/analytic skills, and a team player.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Work closely with VP of Operations, Project Managers, Superintendents
  • Estimating and managing heavy civil site work
  • Develop detailed estimates
  • Assist with outsourcing, analyzing and selecting subcontractor services and material purchases
  • Participate in bidding process, including coordinating with sales team
  • Help managing project cost and change orders
  • Assist with submittals and other necessary project documents
  • Physically inspecting projects to monitor progress and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Keeping project records and documents
  • Attend preconstruction and job progress meetings
  • Study and understand the contract documents of each project before and after estimating to determine areas/issues that may present problems and unforeseen costs
  • Assist with take-off process for site work including: grading, underground utilities and paving
  • Assist and work with Superintendents to maintain excellent subcontractor relations and activities, as well as other areas requiring coordination between field and office staff

Essential Qualifications:

  • B. S. Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
  • Estimating for civil construction experience - 5-7years
  • At least 1 year of field experience is preferred
  • DOT (Dept. of Transportation) and asphalt experience is preferred
  • Proficient in technology (computer/specialized software/GPS equipment)
  • Demonstrated ability to use Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills
  • Trustworthy and dependable
  • Proven ability to keep accurate records, report and analyze
  • Demonstration of teamwork development
  • Proven ability to problem solve and visualize opportunities
  • Willing to travel 1-2 days per week
