About the RoleAs Second in English, you will play a key role within the department, supporting the Head of English in leading and developing a dynamic team. You will also be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, while helping to shape and enhance the English curriculum.
Key Responsibilities- Teach engaging and high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Support the Head of English in leading, developing, and motivating the department
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of a broad, ambitious, and forward-thinking English curriculum
- Monitor student progress and support strategies to raise attainment
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues within the department
- Maintain high standards of teaching, learning, and classroom behaviour
- Contribute to departmental planning, meetings, and whole-school initiatives
- Support extracurricular activities such as reading groups, interventions, or enrichment programmes
Requirements- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Strong experience teaching English at secondary level (KS3 & KS4 essential)
- A strong track record of delivering good or outstanding teaching and learning
- A passion for English and the ability to inspire and engage students
- An interest in progressing into a leadership role within a department
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to wider school life
- Right to work in the UK
