  • Location: FE College based in Walthamstow 
  • Day Rate: £250 - £300 per day
  • Job Type: Full-time, set to last until at least October half-term but could extend
  • Start Date: Mid-August

We working with an fantastic FE College based in Walthamstow who are seeking a Deputy Head of Department for ESOL to join their team. This role involves managing and ensuring the quality of all curriculum provisions across the campus, including work-based learning programmes. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Department to inspire learners and create futures through outstanding technical and professional learning.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Manage quality processes and systems such as course review, internal/external verification, learner satisfaction, digital learning, and lesson observations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across designated curricula to deliver a quality-focused learner experience that engages, inspires, and prepares learners for the world of work.
  • Teach a minimum of 540 hours across various courses, demonstrating high standards of teaching, learning, and attainment.
  • Support the development and evolution of a responsive and relevant curriculum, working with marketing and communications teams to define clear propositions for learners.
  • Create and deliver personalised teaching and learning support plans for teaching staff in collaboration with the Head of Department.
  • Line-manage members of the teaching team and ensure effective delivery of the college’s model for teaching and learning.
  • Support the head of curriculum with the creation and execution of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified teacher with a relevant first degree and/or professional qualifications (e.g., CELTA).
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering outstanding teaching and learning in ESOL.
  • Experience in administration, organisation, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Proven ability to manage and implement a range of quality processes and systems within a further education environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in curriculum development and managing diverse teaching methods.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
