Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for multiple Contact Design Approval Engineers (CDAE) for all design disciplines - Primary on 6 month rolling contracts 2-3 days in the office in Manchester Remote/hybrid.

Role Summary

Outside IR35

Primary CDAE

· Focuses on substation layout and physical design (400kV/275kV/132kV).

· Reviews single line diagrams, general arrangements, equipment layouts, busbar configurations, clearances, and earthing.

· Ensures designs meet National Grid standards, TP141, ENA, IEC etc.

· Coordinates with secondary, civil, and protection disciplines.

Secondary CDAE

· Covers protection & control, SCADA, telecoms, and auxiliary systems.

· Reviews schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings, CT/VT sizing, SAS/IEC 61850 configurations.

· Ensures correct integration with National Grid's operational and control systems.

· Provides assurance that schemes meet resilience, redundancy, and operability requirements.

Civils CDAE

· Responsible for civil and structural design assurance on substations and cable routes.

· Reviews foundations, buildings, trenches, access roads, drainage, fire protection, bunding, and steelwork.

· Checks compliance with CDM, geotechnical, environmental, and NG civil standards.

· Interfaces with primary plant to ensure loadings and spatial requirements are met.
