Speech & Language Therapist
 
Location - Dan Y Coed, Swansea 
 
Salary - £28,000 - £33,000 depending on experience 
 
Hours - 37.5 hours per week according to the needs of the clients and the services

A day in the life of a Speech & Language therapist with Orbis Education and Care involves the following
Clinical;
To undertake routine and complex therapy activities working independently with service users with a range of complex disabilities and health needs.
To work independently with service users both individually and in small groups, in a range of settings
To take the initiative to adapt and modify therapy programmes in conjunction with other Speech and Language Therapists
To demonstrate empathy with service users, carers, families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
To collect information to contribute to assessment of service users expressive and receptive communication skills according to a pre-defined formula.
To analyse responses to treatment and feedback suggested changes in delivery to the Speech and Language Therapist.
To report back to the Clinical Manager at defined intervals to enable monitoring of intervention and to identify when tto provide more direct input.
To liaise with other professionals, support staff, and carers, ensuring that they understand the Speech and Language Therapy programme, referring back to the supervising therapist as needed.
To prepare and organise therapy activities and equipment for own or others therapy, within a programme agreed with the supervising Speech and Language Therapist.
To form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties and motivate them to engage in therapy programmes.
To apply skills in handling clients with disabilities with support.
To develop and use alternative communication strategies, as appropriate, some under direction from a Speech and Language Therapist to support service users' communication.
To develop and produce resources, using high levels of IT, for own and Speech and Language Therapy Service use.CASELOAD MANAGEMENT

To manage a prioritised and specified caseload.
To manage and prioritise own workload.
To maintain up-to-date and accurate case notes in line with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Professional Standards, and Company policies.
To share information with others, observing data protection guidelines.
To produce reports for approval by the Speech and Language Therapist/clinical manager 
To work alongside the Speech and Language Therapist in producing reports on progress and summarizing action plans.
To gather activity data accurately and regularly, ensuring provision of such information promptly within Company guidelines.
To contribute to clinical teams, both uni-disciplinary and multidisciplinary, to discuss own input around clients, ensuring a well-co-ordinated plan.
To support other Speech and Language Therapists in monitoring stock levels in own service areas, and to request new equipment as appropriate.
To be responsible for the security, care and maintenance of equipment, ensuring standards of infection control and safety are maintained - including equipment loaned to people.
To support the administrative work of the Speech and Language Therapists and initiate appropriate administrative tasks when required 
Essential requirements;

Experience of working within speech and language therapy 
Full UK drivers license & a willingness to travel
Experience of working with people who have communication impairments in a complex special needs environment
NVQ/QCF Level 3 Health & Social Care is desirable but not essential In return for your Skills and Expertise, you'll receive:
