Are you passionate about helping children communicate, connect and thrive? A welcoming and well-resourced specialist school is seeking a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), many of whom are non-verbal.

In this highly supportive, structured environment, you will:

• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and emotional security
• Support pupils who are primarily non-verbal using communication approaches such as PECS, visuals, AAC, gestures and modelling
• Assist the class teacher in delivering a curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual needs
• Promote pupils’ independence, social interaction and communication skills
• Support both one-to-one and small-group learning
• Create a calm, nurturing space where pupils can explore, learn and communicate at their own pace
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff

We would love to hear from you if you:

• Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism or SLCN (desirable but not essential)
• Are patient, resilient and nurturing in your approach
• Can build positive relationships with pupils who may communicate non-verbally
• Are comfortable using structured routines, visual supports and sensory-friendly approaches
• Work well as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
• Are passionate about ensuring every child feels safe, valued and understood
